What ISO 14001 Means
ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems. Certification requires organisations to:
- Identify and manage environmental impacts across all operations
- Implement continuous improvement processes for environmental performance
- Comply with all applicable environmental legislation and regulations
- Engage stakeholders in environmental responsibility
Sustainability Initiatives at MEBIUSE
Our journey to ISO 14001 certification involved several significant operational changes:
Material Recycling Programme
HDPE scrap from the rotomoulding process is now 100% recycled. Post-industrial waste is ground, pelletised, and reintegrated into non-fuel-contact components, reducing virgin material consumption by 22%.
Energy Efficiency
Installation of solar panels across 60% of our factory roof area now generates approximately 35% of our annual electricity consumption. Energy-efficient servo-driven rotomoulding machines have reduced per-unit energy consumption by 18% compared to our previous hydraulic systems.
Water Conservation
A closed-loop cooling water system for our moulding stations recirculates and reuses 95% of process water. Rainwater harvesting tanks with 50,000-litre capacity supplement our non-potable water needs.
Supply Chain Sustainability
We now require all major raw material suppliers to hold ISO 14001 certification or equivalent, creating a ripple effect of environmental responsibility throughout our supply chain.
Looking Ahead
MEBIUSE has set ambitious environmental targets for 2027:
- Carbon Neutral: Achieve net-zero carbon emissions for Scope 1 and Scope 2 operations
- Zero Waste to Landfill: Divert 100% of manufacturing waste from landfill
- Sustainable Packaging: Transition to 100% recycled and recyclable packaging materials
